African stablecoin infrastructure provider Yellow Card has forged a strategic alliance with global payments giant Mastercard in a move set to transform cross-border payments across emerging markets.
The partnership will focus on accelerating the adoption of stablecoin-powered transactions across Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EEMEA), regions where demand for faster, more affordable and efficient payment solutions continues to grow. By leveraging blockchain technology, the two firms aim to address long-standing challenges associated with traditional cross-border transfers, including high costs, delays and limited accessibility.
At the heart of the collaboration is the development of practical use cases for stablecoins across key sectors such as remittances, business-to-business (B2B) payments, digital loyalty ecosystems and treasury management. These applications are expected to enhance transaction speed, improve transparency and reduce operational costs for businesses and consumers.
The alliance will also see the two companies work closely with banks, financial institutions and regulatory bodies to pilot secure and compliant solutions.
Joint initiatives will focus on building interoperable systems that integrate seamlessly with Mastercard’s global network while incorporating Yellow Card’s expertise in digital asset infrastructure.
Initial rollout markets include Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, with plans to expand globally as adoption of stablecoin solutions gains momentum.
The partnership builds on Mastercard’s growing push into blockchain and digital asset innovation, while reinforcing Yellow Card’s position as a leading licensed stablecoin operator in Africa.
.As regulatory clarity improves and institutional interest in digital currencies rises, the alliance is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cross-border payments by bridging the gap between traditional finance and blockchain-based systems.
