On November 13, 2024, the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) and B-FARM for Vertical Farming signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Le Méridien Conference Center in Dubai on foreseeing more agriculture innovations and sustainability.

This was during the inaugural AgriNext Conference 2024, held on November 13-14 in Dubai, successfully bringing together global leaders, innovators, and stakeholders in agriculture and technology.

The event served as a dynamic forum for exploring the challenges and opportunities that shape the future of farming and sustainable agriculture. The agreement aims to tackle the agricultural challenges of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region using innovative and sustainable farming techniques.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al-Zaabi, Chairman of AAAID, and Mr. Paolo Bertero, General Manager of B-FARM. The partnership focuses on key areas, including knowledge sharing, technical investment support, research and development, and capacity building. Plans are also underway to explore the creation of a specialized company in the Gulf region to promote advanced farming systems that address food security and environmental challenges.

Vertical farming, which involves growing crops in controlled environments, is central to the collaboration. This approach addresses issues like water scarcity, limited farmland, and food insecurity. It also reduces resource consumption, ensures higher yields, and allows crops to be grown closer to urban areas.

The partnership between AAAID and B-FARM aims to make vertical farming solutions scalable and sustainable, ensuring they meet the agricultural needs of the MENA region while minimizing environmental impacts. Their combined expertise could significantly transform farming practices, opening a new chapter in sustainable agriculture.

The MoU was signed during the AgriNext conference, a platform that connects global stakeholders to shape the future of agriculture. The next AgriNext conferences are scheduled for:

  • London: May 15–16, 2025
  • Dubai: November 5–6, 2025

These events will showcase innovative collaborations and solutions to modern agricultural challenges.
